We are excited to announce this year’s Injury Doctor Scholarship winner. This award, worth $1000, is given to a college student that is interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and exhibits both merit and financial need.
We would like to thank all of those who took the time to apply. After reviewing all of the candidates we are pleased to announce that this year’s scholarship winner, who attends Xavier University of Louisiana is…. Jasmine Tolbert.
Congratulations Jasmine!
Jasmine Tolbert’s story exemplifies true determination, fortitude and a willingness to help others like her to overcome challenges in life. As a child her family was torn apart by the impact of Hurricane Katrina and eventually led her to be homeless and on her own as a teenager in New Orleans. Jasmine realized that the way out of her situation was to persist and finish high school with excellent grades and then continue her education. She set her goals and is exceeding them. While studying at Xavier University of Louisiana Jasmine has also worked in the College of Pharmacy as an executive assistant and then a teaching assistant.
She is currently a patient access representative at Ochsner Medical Center in the departments of radiology, transplant and breast center. Jasmine’s experience at the College of Pharmacy motivated her to seek a career in Pharmacy, which she is now pursuing.
Ms. Tolbert has been motivated by her achievements to help others in similar situations. She mentors other young women in the hope of inspiring them to overcome the obstacles in their lives. She believes that improving self-worth, gaining strength by beating adversity and being empowered lead to success in life. Jasmine Tolbert envisions herself as “a rose that grew out of the concrete and is continuing to blossom every day.”
